     A boy should not be less than 21 years old and a girl should not be less than 18 years old to perform court marriage.


     Both parties must be residents of Delhi to perform court marriage.

     Both parties should not be involved in any previous marriage. Their marital status must be single to be eligible for performing court marriage.

     Aadhar card/Electricity bill/Property papers/Domicile certificate as Address proof.


     PAN card/Matriculation certificate/Passport/Birth certificate for Age proof.


     1-1 witness from each site.


     2-2 photographs of each person in passport size with a light colour background.

Hindu Marriage

 

Hindu marriage is done under the Hindu Marriage Act, of 1955 which is designed for persons who belong to the Hindu religion to perform their court marriage by following the traditional rituals followed in a traditional Hindu marriage.

 

Only Hindu individuals can take part in this marriage. If a non-Hindu is willing to perform court marriage under this act then he/she will have to perform “Shuddhi” (Religious conversion).

 

This type of marriage is also called Arya Samaj marriage which is done under the registered Arya Samaj mandir.

 

Muslim Marriage

 

Muslims in India can perform their marriage under a special marriage act, 1954. They just need to check the eligibility and prepare the documents before applying for court marriage.

 

After that, they can visit the court and do the court marriage without any concern. The marriage procedure will take 30 days but they can also perform tatkal court marriage in the court.

 

Christian Marriage

 

Christian marriage in India will also be done under the Special Marriage Act, of 1954. They’ll also attain the right to follow their rituals after completing the formalities in court.

 

Their Priest helps them to conduct a marriage whether they want to do it in court or want to perform a marriage in church.


Inter-ReligionHindu Muslim Court Marriage


 

If 2 parties are willing to perform a court marriage but are of different religions then there are 2 different ways in which they can do so.

 

They can complete the court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, of 1954. This will take around 30 days to complete all the proceedings of marriage. Otherwise, one of the parties gets converted to the religion of another party and then they can have a traditional marriage under the supervision of judicial authorities.

 

 

Marriage with a foreign resident

 

If a person wants to get married to a foreign resident, then also their marriage gets registered under the Special Marriage Act, of 1954.

 

In this case, the procedure of court marriage will take 30 days and the person who is a foreign resident will have to show all the necessary documents like VISA, Passport and other documents to verify their identity.

 

 

Inter-Caste Marriage

 

Judicial bodies of India give the right to every person who is eligible to perform court marriage to get married to the partner without any discrimination based on caste, or religion. So, 2 people from different castes are also considered as eligible to perform court marriage.

 

Their marriage was registered in India under the Special Marriage Act, of 1954. Their marriage will take 30 days to complete. They can also perform tatkal court marriage or Arya samaj marriage if they belong to the Hindu religion.

 

Procedure of Court Marriage in Delhi 

 

There are 2 ways to apply for court marriage 1. Online and 2. offline. Online, the court marriage form you fill out will get submitted online while offline you need to go to the court to get the appointment.

 

Online

 

In an online court marriage application. You need to visit the official website of the Indian government named https://edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/.

 

     On this site, you’ll get the option of “Apply for marriage”. Click on it and wait until a new web page gets opened.


     Now, you need to find the option of “Book appointment with DM or registrar”. Click on it and add the details asked in it.


     Complete the application and add genuine details to it.


     Apply for it and wait to get the reply from the other side.

 

 

Offline

 

     For offline application, you need to visit the court and apply to get the application form.


     The application form will cost you around Rs. 500/- to Rs. 1500/-.


     Get the application form and fill in all the details asked in it. Make sure that all the details that you have entered in it are genuine otherwise, the registration may get canceled.


     After filling the form, visit the registrar office, verify your documents and get the marriage date which is around 30 days later.

 

 

Once you get the appointment date of 30 days later, just visit the court on that day no matter whether you’ve applied online or offline.

 

You just need to meet the marriage registrar and verify all your documents. Once you verify all your documents the marriage registrar will complete the final proceedings and issue the dedicated marriage certificate.


 

Marriage Registration

 

Couples who have completed the court marriage from the court may not have the marriage certificate will have to apply for marriage registration.

 

Marriage registration is an evidence document that ensures that the marriage between 2 parties is done under the willingness of both parties.

 

To apply for this, parties will have to visit the SDM office and apply for marriage registration. SDM will verify the details and ask a few questions. Then, he will issue the marriage registration certificate to the couple.
